Google Ads Bidding Strategies: When to Use Each One
When and how to use each Google Ads bidding strategy: Manual CPC, Maximize Clicks, Target CPA, Target ROAS, and Maximize Conversions.

Bidding strategy selection determines how Google spends your budget. The wrong strategy wastes money even with perfect keywords and ads.
Manual CPC gives you full control over bid amounts for each keyword. Use it when you are starting a new campaign and need to establish baseline performance data. It requires more management time but prevents automated strategies from overspending while learning.
Maximize Clicks automatically sets bids to get the most clicks within your budget. Use it for awareness campaigns where traffic volume matters more than conversion efficiency. Set a maximum CPC cap to prevent overpaying for individual clicks.
Target CPA tells Google to get conversions at your specified cost per acquisition. It works well once you have at least 30 conversions per month for the algorithm to optimize effectively. If you have fewer conversions, the algorithm lacks data to make good decisions.
Target ROAS optimizes for revenue rather than conversion count. Use it for e-commerce campaigns where different products have different values. Requires conversion value tracking and at least 15 conversions in the last 30 days.
Maximize Conversions spends your full budget to get the most conversions possible. It works well when you have a fixed budget and want Google to maximize results within it. Be aware that CPA may fluctuate — this strategy does not guarantee cost efficiency.
