Dallas Panthers: Social Media Design for a Texas Cricket Team

What the posts had to do

A sports team's feed has to keep its fans engaged between matches, so these posts do more than announce fixtures. They introduce the team, celebrate the game, pose a quiz and mark a public occasion, all in one consistent look.

The design

Deep purple is the identity colour, from a dark stadium-light vignette at the edges to flat purple panels. The Dallas Panthers crest, a panther head with the team name, sits at the top of every post, and white is used for almost all the lettering and illustration, with a single orange accent for sunsets and swirls.

The artwork is built from white line drawings of batters, fielders, stumps and a helmet, drawn in a sketched style that feels fast and energetic, together with a few glossy objects: a glowing, flaming cricket ball and a red ball with stumps and a bat. Headlines are set in a heavy italic display face, for example "Cricket fever", "Time to score, time to win" and "Brace for the storm", and one longer line, "The sound of the bat, the roar of the crowd", frames cricket as an emotion rather than a game.

Not every post is about the team. One is a four-option quiz about the highest individual score in a single ICC World Cup, built to invite replies, and one is a respectful photograph-led post for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, dated January 20. The final post states the team's position plainly: Dallas Panthers, Texas Super League powerhouse team.
